2013 Presentations

UNITY 2013 National Conference: UNITYLA2013
“Facebook Indians (Part 2): Social media, building greater community”

Our “Facebook Indians” workshop at the 2012 UNITY Conference was a great success with standing room only. 99% of the attendees said they use Facbook and owned smart phone devices with apps. The desired outcome of the topic of social media is to awake the consciousness that social media is a powerful tool to communicate and with proper use, we can build community, socially organize and communicate news in a way like never before.

2013 National UNITY Workshop Los Angeles:
Social media is putting mass communication in the hands of the youth with the capability to organize and spread a messages far beyond the mainstream. We will examine a campaign like "Idle No More" and its effectiveness for leadership and unity across nations. During the workshop, we will utilize FB/Skype video chat medias, computer/ipad and screen projection to communicate with major advocates of the "Idle No More" movement. Qorianka Kilcher (Quichua), major film actress, activist and social organizer will co-lead the workshop in person and speak on her successful use of social media.

Workshop aims to inspire how we utilize FB, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, etc., to build access to information, organize, educate and build positive community. We will also show a short new 3-minute video illustrating youth positively experiencing our InterTribalYouth.org program's four basic components of adventure, academics, culture and wellness.
